I got 2 of these. Im so impressed w how quiet they are while still blowing plenty of air, i got 2 more. I own a couple more expensive fans that are being replaced with these for noise reduction.
Edit: 4 months into running these fans 24/7 w no issues. I want to add that i run them at about 3/4 speed and unobstructed. If you turn the speed down the fan motor will whine, all the way up and the wind noise goes up. The motors are fast but weak, so they blow plenty of air when unobstructed, but bog down easily. So, good for venting a small box, not as good for a carbon filter. Although they will work with a small filter.
Edit march 2018. Almost a year now. 2 of these fans have been on 24/7 and 2 of them turn of/on for venting. No issues with any of them. Theyre all still extreemly quiet and ive seen no loss in power.

Only been using this fan for a couple days now, but it’s very powerful, although it does have a speed control even on low it moves a lot of air and is still somewhat noisy.

I was upset about the noise level of the fan. That still holds, but am quite impressed that it has been running 24×7 for about three years now.
Original Review: Poor motor isolation
One of the 2nd floor bedrooms has poor air flow and is too cold in winter or too hot in summer. I installed this booster fan in the 6in duct in the basement feeding the room just before it transitions to an in-wall duct. My decision to select this product was:
+ the fan housing enlarges to about 10″ diameter. This prevents the motor taking precious area and reducing the available cross-section area for air flow which effectively chokes the fan.
+ Includes fan speed control to tune the air flow
+ Large number of positive reviews on Amazon
The installation was fairly easy once you cut the galvanized duct to the proper length. Since my basement has a finished ceiling I had to install inside a closet where the duct was exposed. I removed a section of the duct that is almost the length of the entire booster fan assembly and secured with 6″ hose clamps and sealed with aluminum tape.
Once running, it gives a good boost with a reasonable amount of wind noise at the floor register. With the fan control set at about 1/3 the speed range it gives a good flow (about a 12ft rise to the 2nd floor bedroom register).
The downside is that there is a humming noise transmitted throughout the entire galvanized duct that is quite noticeable. The noise does not carry to the second floor, but is quite audible throughout the first floor and basement where all the registers are connected via galvanized ducts. You can hear the hum under the1st floor where the ducts run under the floors. I measured the sound levels with my phone:
1ft from the booster in the basement: 23.9db (fan off) / 43.2db (fan on)
In the finished area of the basement (home theater): 29.1db (fan off) / 33.5db (fan on)
1st floor dining room (right above the duct with the booster installed): 20.9db (fan off) / 48.0db (fan on)

I’ve had two of these for 6 years now. They have been run a LOT. Very quiet, they move a lot of air. I’ve run them extensively in environments with abrasive dust (drywall dust, for example) and powdered aluminum oxide (coming off my blast cabinet). They just keep working. Absolutely no complaints about them at all. And over those 6 years the price has actually come down slightly!!

So, I’m using this fan as part of my custom built ventilation system in my basement room converted to a cigar room. I use it to suck the cigar smoke out through the window via the 6 inch hose and some ducting that goes out. I use it in conjunction with a duct fan that’s hooked onto the HVAC ducting that acts as an intake fan for the same room.
What I like.
1. The speed controller comes attached. No need to purchase one separately.
2. Durable. I had a mishap where I accidentally dropped it from 7 feet to a concrete floor. No problems, turned it on and fired right up. It’s plastic on the outside, but the fan itself has some good heft to it.
3. Powerful. This thing cleans out a room fast. You can watch the smoke going from the cigar a good distance away in the room as it goes right to the area of the fan.
What I don’t like:
1. This thing is loud. But, that’s the compromise. If you want a proper fan that will do the job, noise will be on the table. That all said, it’s not loud enough to drown out conversation or music on a small speaker in the room. Further, it’s powerful enough to run on low and still keep the room clear with one or two cigar smokers.
In all, this being part of my ventilation system saved me hundreds of dollars by not buying a rabbit, or any other overpriced smoke eater. Good price, quality fan.

I have this fan attached to my ductwork in the basement to push some of the cold air down there into the upstairs area. At 390CFM, this is perfect for our 2000 sq ft house. It is right below our master bedroom and I can barely hear it at night when I am in bed – the dehumidifier down there is far louder.

So it’s well constructed unit, and it definitely blows a fair amount of air. That being said, the primary reason that we purchased it was because we wanted to have a low noise fan. The primary issue with the unit is that when you turn it on for a low volume, the motor makes more noise than it does if you turn it up all the way. In addition, the unit makes a fair amount in the way of vibration. Not a vibration noise that would indicate a bad motor, but really a problem where it hums a lot. Moreover, even with an isolation footing the prevent noise itself to the beam It’s mounted to, it’s still transmits a fair amount of noise to the near-by rooms. Imagine you’re standing next to a high voltage line transformer, and you feel and hear the hum. It’s very much like that and it’s anything but actually quiet.

I purchased this item in hopes it would help reduce or eliminate the fumes from my 3D resin printer while printing.
The fumes from my resin printer had fumigated the whole house Even when having the printer in its own room with a window open with a window fan attempting to exhaust the fumes it did not help much.
Printing in the winter months was pretty much out of the question.
I received this , It was very easy to fit it to my Resin 3D printer.
It worked GREAT! I was able to print all weekend without any fume issues at all. I didnt even have to close the crafting room door. ITS amazing.
I can now use my printer without stinking up the whole house and giving everyone headaches due to the resin smell.
SO the product itself ..
IT is heavy duty. looks to be well constructed.
The Fan is adjustable and Fairly quiet for its size , I am not sure how much air it draws but Its enough for my needs.
The carbon filter is MASSIVE and OMG Its heavy and looks to be GOOD quality, ITs NOT a cheap or flimsy filter.
It even came with a nice washable outer cloth filter sleeve. VERY nice and well constructed.
IT did a Great job, The price is a little high and almost detoured me from purchasing it but the alternative was to try to make my own exhaust system that might not have worked. OR not use my printer too often.
IF you can swallow the price this works GREAT and Im glad I bought it. I just would have liked it more at a slightly lower price.

I am extremely happy with this fan. I am surprised at how long this has lasted. This fan has run all day every day for the last 3 years and is still going strong. This is not a loud fan but pretty powerful. This was a great price for the quality of this item.

Came fast as promised. Well packaged and in good shape. Using it in on a little grow box that I made. The grow box is only about 70 cubic ft so I can get by running the fan at the lowest setting. It is a bit noisy when running anywhere from medium to high but it isn’t anything that I couldn’t get use to. I’ve slept soundly in hotel rooms with air conditioners much louder than this at it’s highest setting. Neither the control switch or the fan show any signs of heating up and have been running since the first day I plugged it in (I guess about 2 weeks now). The carbon filter has been working great so far taking the dank weed smell out of the air. I love the smell but my wife can’t stand it. With this fan and filter combo, everyone is happy. If it keeps performing like it has been, it’s well worth the money.

Updated 4″ Inline fan with speed controller
Mounted it above my 4×4 tent with a carbon filter attached and 6″inch ducting. Its running at just over half speed and keeping my room nice and stable. It’s been working good all week and is on a timer to shut off for 6 hours and it turns back on no problem. Great product for the money! Will update if it stops working. UPDATE: Fan has stopped working and the motor just makes a noise when turned on. Was only used for 3 months on medium speed. Going with a different brand for fans now. Cant loose another crop due to a fan quiting while I’m at work. Thanks Vivosun!! 🙃🙃

Good price for the quality
Airflow is strong and acceptable noise level

Fan moves a lot of air but isn’t 38db.
Style: R8 8 Inch
Pros:
Moves lots of air
Easy to install
Cons:
Way louder than what was advertised.
Says it is 38db but when running I measured much closer to 70db….

Works good but not long
Style: R8 8 Inch
I have two of these running they aren’t crazy about heat higher than 80 degrees. For the price I can’t find better ones and have had the hot side one burn up twice and need another one now.
Vincent –
After my initial review (see below), Vivosun contacted me and offered to send a free replacement. I took them up on their offer to give it another try. I did order a replacement fan that is super quiet and works great after this try, which is what I had been using. However, I was willing to give this one a try to see if maybe I did just get a bum unit.
I got the new unit and plugged it in. It’s definitely not as whiny as the original one, but still quite a bit louder than the other one I got (AC Cloudline Infinity). That one is also 2x the cost, but if you need silence is worth it.
Overall I think this one is OK if you’re on a budget and don’t mind a little noise. If you have the coin and need things as quite as possible – look elsewhere.
I did update from 1 star to 4 stars because of how well the customer service has been. This is still, at best, a 3 star product compared to other options.
I set up a grow tent this year for starting seeds indoors before transplanting into the garden. I wanted an exhaust fan to be able to vent in fresh air to ensure air flow and good photosynthesis. I purchased a Vivosun tent and was generally satisfied, so purchased this fan to go with it.
I received it and everything seemed pretty high quality at first glance. I got it installed and turned it on only to be greeted by this awful, loud, high pitched whine. Didn’t matter the setting, didn’t matter if it was connected to the filter, consistent loud whine.
To its credit, it did seem like it moved a decent amount of air. If I had this out in a shop or in an attic it would probably be fine. But for indoors in a house, absolutely not. No way I could work from home with this torturous, piercing sound in the background.
I ended up returning it and replaced it with an AC Infinity Cloudline fan. That fan w/o the filter was as much as this combo, but it’s dead silent.
Not sure if I got a defective one, or if that’s just a price you pay for this cheaper version. But if silence matters, spend the coin for a better one.

Installed in-line on a 6-inch HVAC duct to increase airflow to the second floor bedrooms due to too cold in winter/too hot in summer issues.
Pros: super easy to install- 45 minutes or less if you’re handy- longer if in a tight or confined space. Very inexpensive fix if you have an upstairs that is too hot/too cold due to poor HVAC volume on upper floors.
Cons: really not any. Since sound travels in the ductwork he may consider it loud, however it’s about the same as having a fan running in your room. This is the ideal model if you’re trying to push more air to a bedroom.
If you plan to install yourself, buy yourself BOTH left AND right handed tin-snips to cut out the duct work you plan to install it in. Note you can also cut into ductwork with a utility knife, though only recommended for initial cut. Connect the ends with flashing tape to make things easy.
I bought this model to duct to all the upstairs bedrooms (4) and now it’s like an icebox up there in the summer. Running our central air no more than before we’ve managed lower the upstairs temperatures by 10 degrees easily- making it so much easier to sleep. I was originally going to upgrade the central air, but that was a multi thousand dollar change – this was in much better solution.
Note- install these as close to the blower as possible- ideally right off the trunk line. Also HIGHLY RECOMMENDED- buy and connect to smart plugs that you can control via app or google home/Alexa. That will allow you to easily turn on and off without having to go to the basement every time you want to turn them on/off, and also allows you to set them to a timer through an app so you don’t have to run them all the time. I only run them from 7-9 at night when the A/C begins to cool the house for the evening

Low setting barley moves air, high barley move air, it’s noise wasn’t happy. Changed to AC INFINITY. way better all around. Low and high work as you’d expect plus they much quite. Haven’t beem impressed with anything Vivoson I’ve got. So won’t buy anymore. I’ll go AC INFINITY instead

When I purchased this I wanted to know more information about type of motor so I could control the speed from a normal switch box on the wall (the fan will be in the attic providing kitchen exhaust). I never figured out if the motor is induction, shaded pole, or brushless (in order to get the correct speed controller), but now it doesn’t matter because I’ll just use the provided speed controller. It will be very easy to remove the controller, drill a hole in a blank faceplate, and mount it in a normal switchbox on the wall in our kitchen so I don’t need to crawl into the attic every time to adjust the speed. I hope this helps someone else out.

I was looking for something that could suck all the air on my laser cuter as well as remove all the fumes. I saw a air scrubber that was 3 times the price and super loud, and this. I purchased both. This is by far the easiest setup and most quiet. It has about 400cmf suction and the carbo will absorb any fumes that might be coming out of the cutter. The outside sock will also prevent any dust from exiting. The only thing I worry about would be if an ember was to be sucked in, but since the canister is steel I think that it would be snuffed out before it even had a chance to penetrate the outside. Over all for the price and size I think it is an awesome configuration.

I just bought a second one. The first one lasted quite a while considering it runs year round for heat and A/C. Highly recommend.

The Ventilation Kit turned out to be quieter than I initially anticipated, which was a pleasant surprise. It efficiently vents out my tent, ensuring excellent air circulation without any disturbances. This unit has been flawless—I’ve encountered zero issues. Assembling and hooking it up was a breeze, adding to its overall convenience. If you’re looking for a quiet, efficient, and hassle-free ventilation solution, this kit is an absolute winner!
Nathaniel –
The fan pushes a decent amount of air, and the actual unit is pretty quiet. However, I’m getting a lot of resonance noise out of the actual filter. Specifically at low speeds, it kind of goes “wahwahwahwahwah” for a bit then smooths out, almost like the bearings or blades aren’t balanced properly. Not ideal, considering I don’t always need the fan at full speed, but if it’s not at 100% I get that oscillating sound. Tent is in my room, so it’s a bit irritating trying to sleep with the pitch changes.
Not sure if it’s normal for how I have it set up (filter only in tent, small length of hose, fan outside tent, rest of hose out of room), or if this unit is partially defective. If something changes, will update the review. Otherwise, good value for the money. Definitely moves a lot more air than my last 4″.

I bought this for my garage for when I smoke cigars and when the fellas come over to smoke cigars. So far this works really good when I get a cloud of smoke. Usually have it on low but when there are multiple people smoking I turn it up. Works great. I have a additional box fan to help air circulate air and it clears out very fast. I would say buy this to help remove smoke in your smoking room.
